John Rogers, father of Nancy Rogers Womack

Sherwood Womack married Ann 'Nancy' Rogers, circa 1798.  Sherwood's will here:  https://sites.google.com/site/womackgen/rcd/rcd/rcd/abr

Sherwood's brother Mansel Womack married Sarah Rogers, daughter of Drury & Tabitha Rogers.

How were Nancy & Sarah related?

Digging through records of Greene Co, GA and Hancock Co, GA, I found the father of Nancy Rogers was John Rogers.  His widow was Eliza LNU (last/maiden name unknown); she may have been Nancy's mother.

John Rogers died in 1806.  Eliza Rogers, who appears to have been his widow, administered the estate with Thomas Dawson, who married Susannah Rogers - some undocumented source have her middle name as 'Hill'.  From legatees mentioned in probate records, we can construct this Rogers family.

John Rogers children:

  • Susannah Rogers married Thomas Dawson
  • Ann 'Nancy' Rogers married Sherwood Womack
  • Celia Rogers (spelled Celee, Selea in the records)
  • Henry Rogers
  • James A Rogers
  • Josiah Rogers
  • Alley Roger married William Lucas
  • Martha 'Patsey' Rogers married Willie Alford
  • Sarah 'Sally' Rogers
The area of Hancock Co, GA that John Rogers and the Womacks lived in had been formed from Greene Co, GA in Dec 1793.

John Rogers purchased land in Greene Co, GA from James Alford, whose son Willie would later marry John' daughter Martha. These were the 'Aunt Patsy Alford and Uncle Wiley' in the 1850 letter written by John Warburton Womack to his cousin Rebecca (Womack) Hinds, daughter of Sherwood and Nancy Rogers Womack.

The land John Rogers purchased was adjacent Abraham Womack, father of Sherwood. The 1793 tax list of Greene Co, GA shows Abraham Womack with land adjoining 'Jno Rogers'.
